Higher Learning
Osage University
A small accredited research university for the ecosystem and its scholars. Four faculties; small cohorts; senior theses that pass external review. Funded in part by the Osage Foundation and coordinated on standing terms with the Osage Institute.
Mandate
Osage University is the higher-learning faculty of the ecosystem. The mandate is plain: educate a small cohort of scholars, in subjects the ecosystem already practises at the operating level, to the standard at which their work can stand on the public record. We are not a credential mill. The unit of account is the senior thesis, not the contact hour.
The University is structurally small on purpose. Four faculties, modest cohorts, a faculty that is either practitioner or full-time scholar โ we do not split the difference. External review is the norm, not the exception.
Faculties
Wah-Zha-Zhe Studies
The long history of the Osage and the broader Plains, archival method, language, and the philosophy of stewardship. The faculty cooperates with the Daposka Ahnkodapi immersion programme and with the Wazhazhe Studies stream at the Institute. Standing emphasis on twentieth-century Osage history, the mineral estate, and the long aftermath of allotment.
Sovereign Systems & Engineering
Applied research on identity, settlement, and governance for sovereign peoples, taught from the engineering side. Course work in applied cryptography, distributed systems, network engineering, and the legal architecture of tribal self-governance. The faculty coordinates with Osage Tech and the Sovereign Systems stream at the Institute.
Air Power & History
A reopened scholarly faculty on the strategic case for air power and the Pacific theatre, anchored in the work of Maj. Gen. Clarence L. Tinker and the cohort that articulated long-range bomber doctrine from 1936 to 1942. Working relationships with the Air Force History Office and the Maxwell Air Force Base archive.
Applied Sciences
Aeronautics, agricultural science, energy systems, and field medicine, taught on the same posture as the engineering faculty: practitioners or full-time researchers, no tourist track. Senior projects feed into operating programmes at Osage Farm, Osage Industries, and the Tinker Scholars pipeline.
Tinker Scholars
Qualifying Native American students entering one of the four faculties are eligible for full-tuition Tinker Scholarships through the Osage Foundation. The scholarship route is administered jointly with Osage Academy where preparatory work is appropriate, and continues to graduate placement at partner institutions.
Standing observances
- 7 June. Tinker Day โ classes adjourn at noon; the annual remembrance is held in the quadrangle and broadcast on Osage Live.
- September convocation. The academic year opens with the reading of the names of the cohort and the matriculation of fellows of the Institute.
- April senior defences. Senior theses are defended in public; external readers are seated for each faculty.
What we will not do
We do not inflate grades. We do not run a parallel honours track for paying students. We do not teach for outcomes we cannot defend at the senior defence. We do not award degrees on the strength of a tuition cheque.
Engagement
Applications are accepted in the autumn cycle for the following academic year. Identity diligence and accreditation run through osage.id. Faculty inquiries from scholars in the four standing faculties are welcomed in writing.
